New York Minute
Adventures in New York are never in vain. Even though I was only there for a minute (see what I did there), it made sense to have my first fashion blog in one of the most stylish cities in the world.
But let's be real, my reason for being in New York wasn't because of the fashion muses that were wandering on every street corner of Soho. I was there for another kind of inspiration: my brother.
Adolescence was a struggle. Attention was the death of me. Therefore, I hid behind every oversized t-shirt and hoodie that I could find that belonged to my brothers. So if you can imagine, my style was far from trendy. That phase quickly ended when I realized I couldn't look like a boy for the rest of my life.
My brother, an aspiring fashion designer at the time, took full advantage of the transition. He dressed me in punk, preppy, bohemian, glamor, romantic; you name the style, I wore it. I was dressed like no one else around me. I didn't care what other people thought; with the risks, that's when I developed my own personal style.
Yeah, New York is great, but honestly my style wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for my brother, Veasna Mao. So who better qualified to style my first fashion shoot but him.
My look has been inspired by people, decades, cities, and clothing brands, but at the end of the day, I make it my own. Always make it your own.
